It was a stormy and cold winter day when three dirty and unkept men in tattered clothing knocked on her door. The woman who answered the door instinctively backed away from the stench of the unbathed men. Yet when she looked in their pleading eyes, there was something that kept her from turning these men away. "Please" they said "it is stormy and we are in need of food and warm shelter.
The woman had a big heart and decided to welcome these three men into her home. She could not, after all, send these men back into the cold winter storm when she herself was blessed with plenty of food and a warm home.
She told the men, "Please, do come in and make yourself at home. Let me get you some warm blankets and get you some hot coffee"
"Is your husband home?", one of the men inquired.
"No", she frowned, "Actually, he's out right now, why??"
"Then we cannot come in", another man replied. "We will wait outside."
She protested and tried to convince the three men to come inside but they would not listen and waited outside until her husband arrived home.
When her husband did finally arrive home, she told him what had happened. He paused and looked at his wife with great love saying "I love you my wife. You have a heart of gold wanting to help and aid these men in need. Please, my kindhearted angel, go and tell them I am home and invite them in!"
The woman went out outside and invited the men in.
Again they protested - "We do not go into a house together."
"Why is that?" she wanted to know, slightly puzzled.
One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said, pointing to one of his friends. Then pointing to another one exclaimed, "He is Success, and I am Love."
He went on to add, "Please go into you house and have a discussion with your husband about which one of us you want to welcome into your home."
The woman went in and told her husband what had transpired. Her husband although puzzled as his wife was felt overjoyed. "How nice!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"
His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success?"
Their daughter-in-law who was over visting was listening so she offered her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then be filled with great love and affection!"
"Let us heed our daughter-in-law's advice," the husband said to his wife,smiling broadly. "Go out and invite Love in to be our guest."
The woman went out and asked the 3 men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in welcome yourself in our home."
Love got up and started walking into the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him.
Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, so then - why are you coming in?"
The men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, Wherever He goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success."
